There are so many different types of yoga out there, how do you know which one you might want to do? Do you want a more physically demanding class or an easy, relaxing, meditative class? Each style of yoga is a bit different from the others and you'll find variations depending on the teacher.  And even if you're a seasoned yogi and used to one style of class, it's always a challenge to try out another.⠀

Today, here's a quick look at Hatha yoga:⠀

The Sanskrit term "hatha" is an umbrella term for all physical postures of yoga. Most forms of yoga in the west are classified as Hatha Yoga . Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar, and Power yoga classes are all Hatha yoga in that they are grounded in a physical practice but classes defined as hatha usually focus more on the poses (asanas) and less on the chanting side of things and are less flowing than the other styles. So they take more of a classic approach to breathing and exercises. The asanas are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and soul and prepare you for meditation. Hatha yoga classes are usually best for beginners as they're usually slower paced and more gentle than other yoga styles.  That's not to say they aren't challenging though.⠀
