The Carroll Merchants Baseball Club is excited to announce the hiring of Head Coach Ben Berg and Assistant Coach Ryan Picard to lead the Carroll Merchants in the 2023 MINK Baseball League  League season.  After a successful inaugural season in the MINK League in 2022, the Merchants are looking to build upon that success both on the field at historic Merchants Park and in the Carroll community. “Both Berg and Picard are ready to start filling the roster for 2023 with high quality players from across the country” stated Chris Whitaker, Carroll Merchants General Manager. 

About Coach Berg:
As a catcher, Berg will play his senior baseball season for Concordia University Bulldogs in Seward, Nebraska this upcoming spring. He will be a Graduate Assistant Coach for the Bulldogs in 2023/2024.  Berg played for the Carroll Merchants in 2019. “I'm incredibly excited to return home to Merchants Park this summer. I can't wait to see the awesome Merchants fans and bring some great baseball to Carroll” says Berg.  In 2021 and 2022, Berg was an Assistant Coach for the Johnston High School Baseball team; one the strongest Class 4A Baseball programs in Iowa.

About Assistant Coach Picard
Ryan Picard is the Assistant Baseball and Football Coach for the Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District in West Columbia, Texas. “I am super excited to join the coaching staff of the Carroll Merchants and join this prestigious league and play at such a historic stadium. I look forward to building a championship caliber team this summer” expressed Picard.  In 2021 and 2022, Picard was the Head Coach for the Ward Island Bull Sharks in the Texas Coastal League.
