𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯𝘀 (4/10) Remember the ‘why’ 🫶

The week before last, we introduced a new series of
tips for football clubs looking to better understand and
engage with their fanbase.

We started with the importance of embracing the fans
and catering to their diverse tastes, preferred formats
and styles. We then asked you to consider how well
you really know your club’s culture.

Our most recent post touches on nostalgia, and we
asked you to share some of your fondest memories
from your clubs. You’ll have noticed that these
moments often remind you of the times rather than the
games themselves. That leads us to today’s tip:

It’s 𝗻𝗼𝘁 about the football.

Most football fans don't credit their club's style of play
for their unwavering support (unless they follow a big
Premier League club while living several cities away).
Instead, it often stems from deep-rooted connections.

Whether it's the sense of belonging to the local area or
the legacy passed down from generation to generation,
their club becomes a part of their identity.

It's crucial to recognise that the football side of things
should be a small part of a wider, culturally rich
narrative.

Fans can watch match highlights on TV and online and
read match reports on their phones; what they really
want are rich and authentic stories, uniquely special to
their team.

It could be the unsung heroes like the tea lady, or the
kit man who’s folded 1 million pairs of socks in his time.

It could also be the inspiring work the club does within
the local community, supporting others as much as they
support you.

These stories hold a magnetic appeal, creating a
profound bond between fans and their clubs. Give them
your platform and highlight the things that make your
club unique!

The My Club section of Red Wall+ is filled with stories
of volunteers across Wales who give up their time to
support their local club and provide opportunities for
others.
