“Every independent bookstore is its own beautiful, strange little kingdom, and there is room for all of us.”
For Emma Straub of Books Are Magic, that kingdom is a place of comfort, amusement, entertainment and warmth, and it’s not a long walk away. 

“A neighborhood isn’t a neighborhood without a bookstore,” she tells us. “We opened in May of 2017, five months after our beloved local bookstore closed. We knew we could do a good job, and jumped at the chance.”

Emma and her husband, Michael, have instilled in their store a feeling of curiosity and self-discovery, with a sense of childlike wonder at its core. “If I could sell just one thing, it’d be children’s books. Nothing in our bookstore would exist without the foundation of children’s books.”�
It is, perhaps, that feeling of discovery and excitement that compels people to come into any bookstore. The independent bookstore is an invitation to imagine and enjoy, to find a book that might bring you someplace new, somewhere your mind has never wandered.�
