Pierre Dorion and the Sens had a fairly busy trade deadline. Here’s a recap.

Anton Forsberg was signed this morning to a 3-year extension with a $2.75 million AAV, which totals $8.25 million. As a career journeyman, this is amazing for Forsberg, who is 17-16-3 in his time with Ottawa. This means that Murray will likely be moved, as them and Gus are all on one-way deals next season. Super happy for Forsy, this is very well deserved.

The first trade of the day was acquiring Senyshyn and a fifth for Josh Brown and a conditional seventh, which turns into a sixth if Senyshyn plays 5 games with Ottawa this season. Senyshyn, 24, was one of the Bruins’ infamous three straight first rounders in 2015, and only had 14 career NHL games. He’s from Ottawa, and has 31 points in 51 AHL games this season, and is expected to join Belleville and help their playoff push. Brown had 6 points in 46 games this season while playing some questionable defence.

Sanford had 9 goals and 17 points in 62 games since being part of the Logan Brown trade. Although he impressed at times, his effort seemed to dip in the last few weeks and was likely going to walk as a UFA at the end of the year anyways, so it’s good to get a pick for him.

McNiven, 24, is a career AHL goalie with 20 minutes of NHL experience. It seems as though he’ll back up Forsberg until Murray is back (there’s a chance he returns this season), and Gus will spend time with Belleville getting reps and hopefully make the playoffs. Also, Mads Søgaard may make a start or two for Ottawa towards the end of the season!

Lastly, Uncle Delly finally gets the call back to the NHL. He had 6 points in 10 games before being sent down, which despite the small sample size was his best points per game in over 5 years. While getting his Florida real estate license, he had 10 goals and 27 points in 26 games with the B-Sens. He never deserved to be sent down in the first place, I’m excited to see him back in the NHL. Hopefully he can continue his good season with Ottawa.
