Education and learning should be active. Maria Montessori knew this.  Kids are not vessels to be filled. They need to construct their own meaning and understanding of the world. This is why using hands on activities is so important in learning. Experiments, exploration outdoors, concrete materials in math, gardening, and cooking are all excellent ways to do this.
