OK, vulnerable post here. When my daughter first started school, a friend asked me why I wasn't homeschooling her. She was surprised when I told her that even though I'm an educator, I didn't feel I could provide her the experiences they could at school. I also told my friend I had to go to work, so how could I homeschool her? WOW, if only I could go back and talk to 34 year old me! I wish I had someone to tell me I didn't have to have all the answers or be a stay at home mom in order to homeschool my daughter. I wish there had been someone to guide me.

Now that I've been a classroom teacher and a homeschool teacher, I can see how much more my daughter could have experienced. The learning that my students achieve is so deep and meaningful. It's also suited to their interests and abilities in a way that's virtually impossible in a classroom of 22+ students. My students' learning isn't driven by a test that must be taken at the end of the school year, it's driven by them.

Really the beauty of homeschooling is the freedom it gives you. Freedom to not be constrained by traditional models, freedom to select curriculum that aligns with your view of the world, and the ability to watch your child enjoy it! That's really the best part. And yes, there are ways to accomplish this and work outside the home.

Let me tell you, you DON'T have to have all the answers to homeschool your child and you DON'T have to be a stay at home mom. There are ways it can be done. I've seen it and I've helped people do it. I'm helping more people this year than I ever have at once. There are so many resources out there. Don't miss out on an incredible experience with your children.

If you already homeschooling and struggling or just starting to consider it and have any questions about how to do it, just ask me. I'm always happy to help and point you in the right direction.
