In the 1960’s when the race riots had just started to die down, a young man had the idea to bring soul into his all white highschool through the medium of legendary musician Thelonious Monk. Blindly, he reached out to Monk’s team expecting no one to respond, but Monk & his band were available and they decided to play the show! There were police and riots in the streets on the day of the show because the white parents and students of Palo Alto were upset that a Black performer was in the school. However, a janitor with some sound recording experience asked if he could record the show live, and that is the very recording you hear on the record - Watch the documentary about this legendary concert on UKW Media!
