## Caption

High on the slopes of Mauna Kea is one of the last refuges for Hawai'i’s unique forest birds. Historically, over 50 species of honeycreepers lived across the islands of Hawai'i. Today, only 17 remain due to a number of threats, including habitat loss, invasive species and climate change.

On today’s #FridayFieldTrip, usfws ranger Leah Messer takes us behind the scenes at Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge.
