Today, we celebrate the 140th birthday of our founder, Ettore BUGATTI, a revolutionary designer and engineer who changed the course of automotive and motor racing history with his creations. In homage to the genius that established our company’s DNA over more than 110 years ago, our design department has created this unique artwork showcasing one of BUGATTI’s earliest game-changing racing creations with its latest; Type 35 and BOLIDE, finished in Ettore’s favourite colours of yellow and black.

From a young age, Ettore’s ideas and inventions were not only original, but truly game radical. The very first BUGATTI, the Type 10 or “Pur Sang”, went against the grain in the name of lightness and size. Two years later, a modified Type 10 – known as the Type 13 – would see Ettore enter his first race at the French Grand Prix of 1911, tackling cars twice as heavy with engines three times as large.

From then on, the rest is history. Ettore’s desire to craft ever-faster and more powerful machines saw the first Type 35 – the most successful racing car ever made – win over 2000 races. Such was his genius that he could not only develop lightweight racing cars but also the most luxurious car of its time: the 3.5-tonne Type 41 ‘Royale’, powered by a 12.8-liter engine of Ettore’s design.

By this time, Ettore had established BUGATTI as the pinnacle of automotive engineering and design – a position our marque holds to this very day more than 110 years later.
