Their publicly close relationship started to turn sour when Jamie Lynn was named a trustee of Britney's SJB Revocable Trust in 2018. The following year, Jamie Lynn seemingly lashed out at Britney fans who were critical of her for not being more supportive during the #freeBritney movement, especially given her role as a trustee. Then, at Britney’s conservatorship hearing in 2021, she said she would "honestly like to sue my family." The conservatorship was terminated later that year, and Britney threatened legal action against Jamie Lynn after she spoke a lot about Britney in her book and promotional tour.⁠
