Each McLain City Year team member served in a classroom alongside a partner teacher, tutoring students and acting as near-peer mentors. As their year of service comes to a close, here are some of their goodbyes to their students and the school.
Mr. Aidan: "The school year’s coming to an end, so it’s time for me to say goodbye. It feels like it happened so fast, and I’m so bummed I couldn’t close out the year with you in person. I had such an amazing time getting to know you, chatting, sharing laughs, working on math, and the experience is going to stick with me for the rest of my life. Try not to be sad that I’m leaving, and instead focus on the good times we had while I was here. I’m not abandoning you, I instead was able to be with you for a year that we otherwise wouldn’t have had together, and that time is coming to an end. You are all worthy, and I love you all very much." Ms. Johnson: "To everyone at McLain, I'd like to say thank you for being so welcoming. It's been an honor to be considered part of the 'McLain Family'. To my students, specifically, I'd like to wish an enjoyable and safe summer. I had a blast learning alongside you all this year. Never forget that each one of you has the power to do amazing things!" Ms. Nguyen: "Hey, y'all! Congratulations on a job well done this year. You made it! Throughout the year, I had a few students ask me why I came to McLain. It's because I knew students like you were capable of doing great things, no matter the circumstances. I have seen you reach your goals this year. Remember that you all can achieve your dreams, and I'll always be there to cheer you on!" Ms. Torres: "I serve for City Year because I want to make a difference in the lives of younger generations. I didn’t know what to expect when I was placed to work in a high school, but I can say this was a huge learning experience for me. This year was already going to be a short year for me, but I never expected to be doing a virtual farewell. Thank you to all the students, staff, teachers and my team. You all made an impact in my life and I appreciate it, not only being placed in a high school, but in McLain." #tps #mclainhighschool #cityyear
