*warning long post*

this is one of the most raw and real posts i will probably share. We live in a society that is blinded by social media and the need for perfection. Mental health is a subject that needs to be more normalized. As i write this i want to make it known that speaking up about mental health is not attention seeking, rather giving people the courage to get help themselves. It takes a lot of strength to be vulnerable.

I have decided that i will not be competing in the upcoming 2022 season. As i know this may be confusing for most, i have struggled with my own mental health this past year. It is okay to not be the best version of yourself and ask for help. I wanted to use this as a moment for positive change and awareness to the fact that this is real.

Although my chapter here at Mizzou has come to a close, i am thankful for the love this university has shown me. It’s been a long ride, with many ups and downs but i wouldn’t change it for anything.

If you know someone who is struggling, show your support and be patient with them. Sometimes all people need is some kindness and a hug. Check in on your people, let them know they aren’t alone, and most importantly if you love someone tell them they’re loved.

Speaking on mental health is never easy. We need to break the stigma and it starts here, by speaking up and creating an environment where it’s okay to not be okay. As athletes we are performers but we are still humans who face our own battles outside of the sport. As i start my new journey, ill still be around just in a different role. Know you’re not alone, and sometimes it’s okay to choose you.
