#JoFrost from #Supernanny is still helping families after 35 years in the nanny business. But she wants to clear up what #gentleparenting really means and to make timeouts less subjective.

“Some will say it means no discipline and no consequences at all and others will say it does," Frost explains about gentle parenting. "That’s my point, nobody is quite clear.”

She recommends children remain in timeout for one minute per age. If a child gets up before the time is over, the timer is reset to the beginning.

She says the version of what she calls a timeout "is modified from a practice that was happening back in the 1900s, a very clear explanation of the importance of why a timeout creates healthy boundaries and the importance of that." Frost thinks that now, a lot of parents "have abused the timeout to really control a child rather than to feel like they are creating some positive, healthy boundaries.”

New techniques, different approaches and changing styles have been introduced throughout the years, but Frost believes in things staying consistent.

Link in bio for one promising change she's witnessing in parenting.
