as far as my captions go, they are mostly sarcastic and short because i try to limit my true emotions on social media. i was planning to do the same when posting about this recent achievement but i think this one deserves a story. let me be clear. a story, not an explanation because i don’t have to prove anything to anyone but myself. this isn’t the full speech but the beginning and end to provide a summary.

some people seemed...baffled when i said i was chosen to do a commencement speech for ECU Econ Class of 2019. i know there are people that have achieved so much more than me and are much smarter as well. most people don’t know my story because only very select close friends and family know what i’ve honestly been through, if that. i don’t share too many of my struggles with the world because i really try to let my growth speak for itself.

i wasn’t chosen for society’s definition of success, i was chosen because i defined my own success. my story isn’t perfect but it does have character. i have failed and have made plenty of mistakes but i have risen up from each one through discipline. there’s many things i’ve left out of this 18 minute speech that only my close knit circle knows but i felt this would suffice to help graduates understand - define your own success, success doesn’t define you
