The biggest name Washington has to lock up this offseason is Brandon Scherff. The former 5th overall draft pick in 2015 has cranked out 4 Pro Bowls and 1 All-Pro nod and will demand big money this offseason. Here’s what we’d do:
—
Jess:
Scherff has been everything Washington wanted and more when they picked him. He’s established himself as one of the best interior linemen in the league and although injuries have become somewhat of a concern in recent year, WFT needs to lock him up. There was some concern on if a deal would get done or not, but with everything Scherff and Rivera have said, I think they come to one. His age of 29 is something to remember, so I’d gravitate towards a 4 year deal over 5.

Verdict:
Stay—4yr/56m, 30m GTD

Justin:
It makes a ton of sense to sign Scherff to a long term deal. For a team that looks like it is a QB away from competing, Washington has to sure up their offensive line and that starts by keeping the duo of Moses and Scherff together on the right side. Spotrac currently has Scherff’s market value at $11.1M per year on a 4-year deal. If they can keep Scherff at that number, I think it’s a steal. Last offseason, former Washington guard, Ereck Flowers, got a 3-year deal worth $10M per year from the Dolphins. Scherff will get more than $11.1M per year on the open market, so that number will have to come up for Washington to be able to re-sign him. Ideally, you’d like to keep his per year number below $14M.

Verdict:
Stay—4yr/50m, 25m GTD
