Kevin Pierre-Louis was thought to be just a special teams addition when the squad signed him early in Free Agency last March. In training camp, it became evident the team viewed him as a starter though, and that’s what happened. With a linebacker group that needs to be upgraded, it should be interesting what the decision is on Pierre-Louis. Here’s what we’d do:

Jess:
In all honesty, I am not really opposed to either one of the two routes the team could go. You know what you get in Pierre-Louis as a good contributor on special teams and an average at best starter on defense. I’d like to upgrade the spot however, so I wouldn’t bring him back with the expectations of starting. KPL’s snaps dwindled as the season progressed and when he got injured, that gave Khaleke Hudson the opportunity to make some plays. Pierre-Louis should not be starting for Washington in 2021, but he deserves a spot on the roster.

Verdict:
Stay—1yr/3m, 2m GTD

Justin:
Kevin Pierre-Louis had a much larger role this season than expected. He finished with 10 starts on 50.3% of the team’s snaps, which is a much larger role than he has ever had throughout his career (in 2017 he was in on 22.8% of the Seahawks snaps on defense that season and 19.7% with the Bears last season). In 2020, Pierre-Louis had 56 tackles, 1 sack 2 passes defended, 3 TFL and 1 forced fumble. The linebacker position needs a big upgrade if this defense wants to go to the next level, but you’d be bringing Pierre-Louis back as a solid backup/rotational player and special teamer.

Verdict:
Stay—1yr/3.2m, 1.75m GTD
