🎨We are kicking off Women History with Mihri Müşfik🎨: 
Born in 1885, Mihri was one of the very first female painters in Istanbul. She was born into a very privileged family which allowed her to start painting and be accustomed to the fine arts. After receiving initial training by the Ottoman court painter at the time, Mihri spent time in Europe to further study fine arts. Following her return to Istanbul, Mihri founded the first all-women Ottoman fine arts institution at a time where women were not allowed in fine arts academies across Europe. As director and instructor, she encouraged her students to study the human body, paint from real life, and provided them the opportunity to work from live nude models. In this way, Mihri paved the way to many of the greatest Turkish women painters in history. Later in life she relocated to Italy and lived amongst the court, painting portraits of royalty and even the Pope. Finally, she moved to New York where she died. Most of her work and accomplishments are lost and unknown.
