This year has had a lot of destructive energy,  I have lost several friendships and also had to drop several projects, but on the flip side the relationships that remain have strengthened. We tend to demonize destructive energies but that clearing allows for new things to grow.

I recently fell in love with taking pictures, I was always intimidated by photography and to a certain extent I still am, but on my recent trip to Houston to see snake_dreams I just knew to bring my Polaroid. I wasn't sure why, but something told me it was important.

During my stay she and I went to the mall. I love malls because it reminds me of being young and having the luxury of being idle, something that is rare in adult life. There's some freeing about just being able to roam the mall with your best friend, because you are not following them and they are not following you, you are following eachother. While in the mall we found ourselves in Neiman Marcus, with the clerks eyeing us suspiciously. I stepped back a couple feet and took this photo of Rachel holding up this dress. We let it develop and took a look in the parking garage 10 minutes later.

Rachel said it best in her insta post: "I could never in my life afford a dress like this but also [because of Covid] there is nowhere to wear a dress like this." I can relate to this photo because of active longing. To take yourself to a store and hold things you cant have is both sad and beautiful, and there is nothing wrong with it.

I paired the photo with a picture of the dog walk because of its normalcy, in Cinderella we watch her race home before midnight before the spell of luxury wares off, she mistakes her worth with her value. When we connect with these characters we learn that they are beyond valuable whether they are rich or poor. When we allow ourselves to be authentic, we get to be the same person inside and outside of castle. Such an amazing trip and making art with your friends is the best.
