It might be NYE but here in Germany, we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to Christmas.
⁣
I love the celebration of “the twelve days of Christmas,” forcing you to slow down and seep in the quiet days between December 25 and January 6. 
⁣
The days are cold and it gets dark early, early. But almost every window is illuminated with candles and stars. There’s warm Gluhwein to welcome you after a frosty walk and comfort foods galore like all the melted cheese you could want (hey there, Raclette!) Germany certainly holds its own when it comes to “hygge.” 
⁣
If we were back in San Francisco, perhaps our tree would already be down, decorations packed up until next year. And that would be fine! But it’s nice this year, when everything has felt like so much, to just enjoy these slow, cozy moments.
