Professor Katie Wang focuses on the physical and mental health consequences of stigma among members of diverse marginalized populations.

“I believe that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are core public health principles that should guide all aspects of our work,” she says. “One overarching suggestion I have, both as an ableism researcher and as a person with a disability, is to respect the agency and autonomy of people with disabilities… Overall, I believe that a willingness to recognize people with disabilities as experts on our own needs, along with a commitment to presume competence, is essential to combat ableism in our society.”
