## Caption

Although it’s curable, TB is still the leading cause of death worldwide due to a single infectious disease.  Treatment is six months long, but lack of adherence is common and leads to treatment failure and potentially development of drug resistance.  My research in Kampala this summer involves interviewing TB patients as they begin treatment and again at their two week and two month follow-up appointments.  We’re hoping to utilize the survey data to help create a more patient-centered TB education and counseling intervention that addresses individual-level barriers to TB medication adherence.

In the picture with me is my Ugandan colleague, Leah, who has administered all of the surveys in one of the local languages, Luganda, and has oriented me to so many aspects of working in a health centre in Kampala.  I wouldn’t have survived the summer without her 🙌🏻 #EndTB #ysphtakeover
