National Amateur Cup

The #USOC2023 Quarterfinals are complete, so let's look towards 2024.

The #USASA Region III Amateur Cup tournament kicks off tomorrow in Plano, Texas. The most unique of the four usadultsoccer Amateur Cups has ten teams playing three games over two days for a spot in Sunday's knockout rounds. The winner will move on to August's national finals and be two wins away from a 2024 opencup berth.

In total, ten teams are taking part from six states (five state associations and npslsoccer). They are:

* dfwutd (ntxsoccer_)
* ICE FC/Black Ice (Texas North)
* Kader Boys FC (Georgia)
* ntx_santos (Texas North)
* sharksfcaofflorida (fladultsoccer)
* tobaccoroadfc (ncadultsoccer)
* tulsaathletic (#NPSL) 
* Xolos PV Nuevo Laredo (Texas South)

The ten teams have been split into three groups. Two groups of three teams each (Groups A & B) and a four team group (Group C). Each team will play three group stage matches.

For the teams in Group C that means a simple round robin against one another. The teams in groups A & B will not play against members of their own group. They will play each member of the opposing group instead. The top finishing team from each group and the best runner-up will advance to Sunday morning's semifinals.

Points for standings are a little different too and honestly feel ripped out of the #NASL circa 1970. A team gets six (6) points for winning. They also receive an additional point (1) for a shutout) and one (1) point for each goal up to three goals. A draw is worth three (3) points and a loss is worth zero (0) points.

Tie breakers are: 1) Head-to-head, 2) Greatest goal differential (capped at a 3-goal differential), 3) Most goals scored (capped at 5 goals), 4) Penalty kick shootout.
