 win the 2002 US Open Cup title in front of their home fans, edging #LAGalaxy 1-0. Freddy Garcia scored the lone goal in the 30th min. as #Crew96 became the 1st #Ohio team in history to win the tournament. ⁠

The Crew held on with only 10 men in the final seven minutes, after Chad McCarty was sent off. Jon Busch made four saves to earn the clean sheet. The win was even more special because team owner Lamar Hunt was able to lift the trophy of the tournament that bares his name. ⁠
