Meet our third #USCInfluencer: Megan McSherry, USC junior majoring in business.
.
.
.
What: tunesandtunics, a sustainable fashion blog, where she writes “about brands that are doing good things and ways to be more of a conscious consumer.”
.
.
.
How she started: “I went to this business of fashion camp before my freshman year of high school in Manhattan. And there were a bunch of speakers from the industry that did all different types of things and one of my favorite speakers was this blogger. And she talked about what she did, and I hadn’t really heard of fashion blogs before then because they weren’t cool yet. .
.
.
Inspiration: “I do a lot of thrift shopping and swap clothes with a lot of my friends so it’s kind of a mixed style. I do get a lot of inspiration from Instagram from following other bloggers.”
.
.
.
Brand collaborations: “I worked with tsforbees recently and they are a t-shirt company that uses 100% organic cotton in their t-shirts and percentages of the proceeds goes towards saving the bees. It’s really just finding brands that you really like and that fit your mission and reaching out to them, and being like, “‘Hey, here’s an idea and what do you think?’”
.
.
.
Common blogging misconception: “One of my least favorite things is the reputation that bloggers have. People think we’re fake and we’re all about social media. We are focused on growing a brand but we’re not fake. We have things to say.”
.
.
.
Experience with press: “teenvogue used to have a blogger program on their website back when I was in high school and you would submit posts to this program and they would feature it on their website. For a while I was the number one blogger on Teen Vogue. I also did a feature with localwolves magazine, which is a small magazine based in LA.”
.
.
.
Advice for starting a blog: “If you’re thinking about starting a blog, start one. It’s been the best thing that’s happened to me, and it was just a whim, ‘I’m just going to start it.’ And now it’s been around for seven years.”
