During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, 9-year-old Brooklyn was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her parents noticed some abnormal bruising, so they took her the doctor. She was immediately admitted and spent the next 183 days in the hospital. She underwent 4 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a successful bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. About 9 months into remission, Brooklyn’s labs came back at abnormal levels. Brooklyn is now waiting for her white blood cell count to be acceptable so she can try a second bone marrow transplant – this time, from her mom, Cara.
