Meet Shepparton's Leading Senior Constable, Leigh Johnson.⁣
⁣
After spending a few years in the north-west of Melbourne, Leigh moved back to his hometown of Greater Shepparton to reconnect with community, enjoy the local festivities and its great weather. He also took on the additional role as a Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) within the Proactive Policing unit.⁣
⁣
MLOs play a vital role in providing support to individual multicultural community groups to encourage and maintain a harmonious relationship between police and Victoria’s diverse communities. ⁣
⁣
For Leigh, this involves working closely with multicultural communities day-to-day, attending events, schools and places of faith to better understand what their needs are and break down cultural barriers.⁣
⁣
“Our culturally diverse communities make a wonderful and valued contribution to our society in a variety of ways, and it's really important and great to celebrate this. ⁣
⁣
“Some of these people come from quite traumatic places. And as police officers, it's about just saying to our communities that we're actually here to help and support you.”⁣
