## Caption

Hailing from Charles Frodsham & Co., this yellow gold open-faced timepiece is one with a remarkable history. One of approximately 25 pieces that were commissioned by John Pierpont Morgan to be given as gifts, this Charles Frodsham/J.P. Morgan Caliber Tourbillon watch. No. 08’617 now comes to auction.
 
Specialist thamjan dives into the rich history of the piece, which Morgan had made for his close friend Henry Codman Potter. Potter had served as the seventh bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York and was a prolific community leader who helped reinvigorate the Church, playing a central role in the cultural transformation of the country. A testament to the intimate relationship between Morgan and Potter, the watch is detailed with a personal inscription on the back from Morgan.
