Synonymous with creativity, Maison Cartier is renowned for creating and leading the latest trends, with The Cartier Crash perhaps being the best example of the brand’s unique and forward-looking style.
 
Abstract in nature and timeless in its design, this iconic piece is arguably the most sought after wristwatch in Cartier’s vintage repertoire, and a model that the Maison continues to produce today. 
 
A highlight of our forthcoming Important Watches Part I sale in Geneva on 10 November, this example is one of fewer than a dozen first edition Crash watches ever produced, with only two similar pieces having been offered at auction in the last 25 years.
 
The Makers’ mark ‘JC’ for Jacque Cartier is visible to the case, and ‘melted’ déployant clasp both of which also feature matching numbers signifying that they were made together and have since remained together.  The dial is also evidently from the first series, displaying the use of ‘IV’ to denote the number 4, rather than ‘IIII’ which was used in subsequent editions.
