By turns companions and rivals, equals and opposites, Freud and Bacon's friendship is a captivating one - and one that endured. Freud's second wife Caroline Blackwood noted that she and Lucian had dinner with Bacon 'nearly every night for more or less the whole of my marriage to Lucian. We also had lunch.'
