What a performance tonight from Giovanni Alejandro Reyna. 👏🏾

Despite playing deeper in midfield, Gio put in a shift against México, arguably putting in his best ever performance in a USMNT shirt.

He wasn’t afraid to get stuck into tackles and tracked back constantly to win the ball back, while also contributing a lot to the attack.

What a moment for him when he scored, which was a great goal in itself, the 21-year-old pointed to his parents who were at the stadium watching him— former USMNT captain Claudio Reyna and former USWNT star Danielle Egan Reyna.

Gio was then given Player of the Tournament award.

“I’ve known his abilities for a long time. Gio is a New York kid and I’ve watched him growing up playing against my brother,” Tyler Adams said after the game.

“He can do things on the field that not many players I know can do. He’s going to be a very, very important player for us moving forward.”

“He just needs to play games week in and week out. Everyone goes through those moments. I was at Leipzig at 21 not playing consistently either.”

“You saw what he was capable of tonight.”
