SHERPA Film takeover [9/12] by renan_ozturk //[Renan is a thenorthface professional climber, camp4collective adventure filmmaker and landscape artist who was the high-altitude director and main cinematographer of the feature doc SHERPA shot on the RED EPIC 6K.] // The reason why it typically takes so long to climb Everest is the acclimatization process. Typically you have to make repeated trips through the dangerous icefall to sleep at higher and higher camps, returning down to base camp each time…until recently. Now, new tactics to cheat the system include sleeping in oxygen deprivation tents at home (like the ones by hypoxico) or by climbing and sleeping atop neighboring peaks in the region to reduce the number of treks through the icefall. Here is timkemple at 21,000 feet on Lobuche’s summit ridge, the most common place to sleep and built up red blood cells on Everest’s south side. Unfortunately the Nepalese workers still have to make dozens of trips through the icefall to stock camps. So often the climbers are the lucky ones to acclimatize out of harm’s way. #NepaliLoveYou #SherpaFilm #HeroesOfTheHimalya #shotonRED #REDEPIC
