This Day in Union History: December 5th 1955 - Merger of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), forming the aflcio. Our President at the time Harry C. Bates (at podium) was one of six appointed to the Executive Committee and Directed the Housing Standing Committee during the Founding Convention.
