Following the state of emergency in French Polynesia, our event in Tahiti was canceled this year, however we are thrilled to highlight our #weareoneocean coalition partner @coralgardeners with another update.
.
Threatened by climate change, healthy coral reefs are among Earth’s most biologically diverse ecosystems and they provide vital ecological services. In light of this, in 2019, with support from @wsl and Dr. Austin Bowden-Kerby, @coralgardeners planted super coral fragments onto their restoration tables. Fast forward one and a half years later, now hundreds of those nursery-grown super corals are ready to be transplanted onto damaged reefs to revive and enhance their resilience and help mitigate some of the climate change impacts on our one ocean.
.
As Dr. Austin Bowden-Kerby pointed out in 2019, planting corals is not a long term solution to coral reef decline, but it does buy us time, while we all work to reduce carbon emissions as individuals, businesses, and governments. As Austin states, “We’re keeping them alive, assuming and trusting that humanity will change. And I trust that people will change, and governments will change. What we can do right now, is focus on the young generation.”
.
With that focus in mind, visit CoralGardeners.org to adopt a coral and support their restoration efforts to bring life back to our ocean and join us in learning more about reducing your emissions at https://wsl.tv/WSLPUREclimate
