Small but mighty: Although these Teochew puppets, belonging to the troupe Sin Ee Lye Heng, are one of the smallest among the traditional Chinese puppets, they are capable of vigorous action thanks to the iron rods used to move them. Their fingers are also made from wire and can be used to hold props! Their only weakness is their heads, which are made of fragile clay rather than sturdy wood. Given their petite stature, puppeteers have to sit, not stand, in order to manipulate them (phew).

Held in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, Moonfest celebrates the festive season with performances rooted in Chinese traditions. Sin Ee Lye Heng Teochew Puppet Troupe was one of three Chinese puppet troupes that performed in Moonfest. 🔗 🔗 in bio to watch selected Moonfest livestreams, available until 25 Sep.
