## Caption

In Korea’s oldest folk religion, the shaman plays an important role as a mediator. In rituals known as “gut”, music and dance are used to achieve trance and create a communal union between the gods and their believers. Shamans are also consummate singers, having committed to memory a staggering number of sacred songs and narratives. Often also performed in a secular context today, vocalists such as Kim Bora still imbue the performances of these ritual songs with the same intent and can move their listeners. ➡️ to listen
