2/3—The artists of Cipta Cita share about their relationship with language

Nana Karia: “Language has always been one of my interests. To date, I am fluent in Malay, English and Indonesian, fairly fluent in Mandarin and Arabic, and currently learning Korean. Of course, Malay is my native language, and although my interest in writing came a little late in life, my interest in reading poetry, stories and lyrics have always been there. I love writing poetry and lyrics because it encourages me to open my mind, to accept that life is never just black and white. Writing can beautify the unpleasant and give sensible meaning to certain failures. It opens me up to renew myself over and over again. I enjoy getting to know myself a little bit better through my own writings.”
