The make up colours differ for each dialect opera troupe. The costumes are always magnificent and they also have special significance.

The other yearly esplanadesingapore Moonfest programme I enjoy is the Chinese Opera. You get to see Chinese operas performed in different dialects - and there are major differences in make up, costumes etc. More importantly, there's English subtitles so I know what's going on!
