"I realised that all the books I enjoyed were about somewhere else, not my own hometown. I thought that we needed our own literature in order to know about ourselves." – Singapore pioneer writer and playwright Goh Poh Seng, on his motivation for writing. Singapore arts pioneer Goh Poh Seng was described by Asiaweek as a "top-notch playwright, novelist and poet", and we featured his play The Moon is Less Bright earlier on in our look at the beginnings of Singapore Enlish-language theatre in our special The Studios: fifty season.
