Staff Spotlight ➡️ Maura Sheridan

Earlier this month, Maura Sheridan was named radio voice of the UVM men’s hockey team. She will be the first woman to fill this role. Maura will also serve as the host of the Catamount Insider presented by Milton Cat.

Maura is also our uvmwbball Broadcaster, and the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Lynchburg Hillcats. Maura graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in broadcast and digital journalism in 2018. 

When asked her favorite memory from working in sports, Maura responded: “So many! It was amazing calling a game at Allen Field-House in Kansas in my first year with UVM Women's Basketball. I also loved Hanna Crymble's hometown game against Minnesota! Her entire town was out for that game and it made your heart melt to see that kind of support.”

Maura is apart of a group chat going of all five of the female broadcasters in minor league baseball. They are  all facing challenges of being women in such a male dominated industry and Maura says it is amazing to have allies that understand you.

Growing up, Maura sometimes felt afraid to express her competitive edge and “nerdiness” about sports. Working in sports has shown her that you can channel those qualities to create something beautiful. 

“It is amazing what can happen when you’re not afraid to be yourself.”

Maura’s advice to female athletes is: “Keep fighting. Inevitably in your career you will run into people that don't believe in you. Don't listen. Believe in yourself. Work harder than everyone. Focus on what you can control. Inevitably you will find people that do believe in you. And once that happens, no one can stop you.”
