UAPB FOOTBALL NFL WEEK 8 REVIEW

Former University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff football standouts Jamie Gillan of the Cleveland Browns and Terron Armstead of the New Orleans Saints represented for their respective teams during NFL Week 8 action.

Gillan and the Browns (5-3) lost at home to the Las Vegas Raiders 16-6, while Armstead and the Saints won at the Chicago Bears 26-23 in overtime.

Despite chilly, windy conditions in Cleveland, Gillan was unphased, as he averaged 54.5 yards on two punts in the contest. Gillan drilled a 59-yard punt in the second quarter, and connected on a 50-yard punt in the third quarter. 

The game was tied at 6-6 after three quarters before Las Vegas scored 10 unanswered points in the final period to seal the win. 

In Chicago, Armstead and the Saints also battled blustery conditions to get an important conference win against the Bears. 

New Orleans displayed tremendous grit in improving to 5-2, as Chicago tied the game in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime.

The Saints drove for the game-winning score on their second overtime possession. They moved 52 yards on seven plays before Will Lutz’ 35-yard field goal with 1:40 to play in the extra period gave New Orleans the win. Drew Brees passed for 280 yards and a pair of touchdowns in victory.

Next week, the Saints will play at Tampa Bay in an NFC South showdown on Sunday Night Football on NBC at 7:20 p.m., while the Browns have a bye week.
