The outdoors has always been an exciting and important space in my life. Although it isn't always a "safe space" for queer and marginalized people, there is the comfort in being close to nature that my soul craves. Living in the city can often feel over-stimulating; with just a short trip into the woods, I feel refreshed and ready to tackle any challenge. My favorite part of being part of the outdoor community is the strong friendships I have made with nature and adventure at the core. And dogs, we must have those adventure pups around! My fondest memories and most exciting moments I look forward to always revolve around a trip to the outdoors. One of my 2021 goals is for my partner, pup, and I to go into nature at least twice every month! This month, we remember those who have fought for our queer and trans rights, the black trans women, indigenous trans women, two-spirit people, and trans women of color who gave their freedom and lives to bring our queerness to the forefront of policy and we continue that fight. Our very lives are at stake, our bodies unfairly policed and controlled, and we need allies to stand up and fight with us. It's never too late to become an ally, Pride Month is a time of reflection, community, and action. Take a stand! Nature is the sanctuary that I need to regenerate. It isn't always a safe space, but it is the space that brings me peace.
