The "call of the wild" is no stranger to LGBTQ+ community. The allure of fresh, boundless space to be yourself is appealing to us and our community for so many reasons and is why I started getoutandtrek
.
It's an incredible time for underrepresented  communities (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, etc), particularly in the outdoors. As these communities gain a greater voice, we're seeing more and more outdoor clubs, groups, and programming come online. This is really exciting.
.
That's not to say that getting outdoors is easy for underrepresented folks. We still lack access and representation in marketing imagery, product development, programming, employment, policies, and sponsorships. Change is hard. The complexities of LGBTQ+ community, its intersections with BIPOC and other underrepresented communities, as well as the decentralized and relatively unregulated nature of the outdoor industry makes navigating the space a challenge. .
While industry-wide changes may be slow to happen, there are now many more resources for all our communities to get out and be free. Every day it seems there's a new queer climbing club, cycling group, or out BIPOC athlete. This energizes us at GOAT and excites us for the future. Our recent shelter in place has increased everyone’s appreciation for the great outdoors. This is an opportunity for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people, society, and the outdoor industry to recalibrate.
.
We're all needing and wanting change. This is that moment. June is Pride Month for LGBTQ+ people. To celebrate all our community we must celebrate all our diversity. We stand together with our BIPOC brothers and sisters - whether it's mountain biking, climbing, kayaking or running, together we can do something fun and special. Join us. Together, we can #TakePrideOutside.
