## Caption

It’s called PJ1, VHT and the sticky stuff, but it’s most commonly known as traction compound.

Typically, NASCAR sprays PJ1 in the corners in an attempt to create grip for multi-groove racing. PJ1 makes grip at the price of less entertaining racing, as cars drive significantly easier through the grip.

Indycar however doesn't like to find PJ1 on track: with those cars it just doesn't work, or worse, makes the car harder to drive. Also, it fails to create a valid second line for racing. And that's why every year you'll hear about Texas' surface complaints.
