Tough, fast, unstoppable. 

It's difficult to sum up the long story of Anthony Joseph "A.J." Foyt Jr. from Houston, Texas. 

7 USAC championships, 369 races, 67 wins, 117 podiums, 53 poles and 4 wins at the Indianapolis 500 makes him the most successful driver ever in American Open-Wheel Racing. He's the only driver able to get 7 titles in the biggest open-wheel categories with Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. His list of success is just staggering, with 12 USAC titles and a total of 138 wins between Open-Wheels, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars and the Silver Crown Series, 4 IROC titles, the 24h of Le Mans, the 24h of Daytona twice, the 12h of Sebring and the Daytona 500. Foyt holds the closed course speed record, earned in 1987 with a Oldsmobile Aerotech at an average speed of 257.123 mp/h. He held also the average speed record at Talladega on a Indycar since 1974, 217.854 mp/h! 

He started 35 times in a row at the Indianapolis 500 from 1958 to 1992. He got severely hurt many times like in 1966 at Riverside, where he broke his back. He almost lost his right arm in 1982 after a crash at Michigan. In 1990 at Elkhart Lake, a brake failure sent him straight into a dirt embankment, hurting his legs. Eight months later, he came back and started in 2nd place at the Indianapolis 500. In 1965 he won a sprint race at Springfield and the very next day he started from the pole at Milwaukee with the same front-engine sprint car against a field of rear engine cars, finishing 2nd! He won the Indy 500 as a team owner in 1999, and he dominated the sport with his own built cars, a Coyote chassis and the Foyt's engines. He drove with red leather golf gloves, he got attacked by fire ants, killer bees, he almost drowned while working in his ranch, he was attacked by a water mocassin and a lion, he drove 25 miles to the hospital with a severe heart attack and he had a triple bypass. He's still there because none is tougher than him, the Greatest American Hero, Super Tex. None!
