NASCAR departed after two years and the circuit was in danger of losing its CART race too. Carl Haas was given a long-term contract to organise all racing activity. He was able to save the race and begin a series of improvements.
Shortly after Haas took over, a new front stretch wall was installed and the structures received a fresh look. The CART race was a success, with 43,000 spectators on the grandstands.
NASCAR's Busch Series returned in 1993, followed by the new Craftsman Truck Series in 1995.
The oval track was resurfaced in 1996 and the pit lane exit was improved. This slightly widened the turns. The IRL re-measured the track in 2004, and it resulted in 1.015-miles. NASCAR instead continued to use the sheer one mile measures.
Then, in 2004 the road course was widened and resurfaced to host testing, driver training and kart racing. Also, a new building incorporated the media centre, while the pit road and the retaining wall were modernized. The score tower received a digital display.
The Indycar Split made room for an Indy Racing League race from 2004, giving Milwaukee Mile the luxury of being one of the few tracks to host both IRL and Champ Cars in the same year. From 2007, Champ Car events ended and one year later the Fair Board lost the promoter for Indycar and NASCAR. Both left for 2010.
In 2011, a new promoter organized the Indycar event, but poor marketing led to failure. Michael Andretti stepped in to save the race. He agreed with the State Fair Board to re-launch the event with proper marketing. This time the event was a success.
Andretti continued to successfully promote the event up to 2015, but the series dropped Milwaukee for 2016.
In 2021professional racing returned, with the ARCA Menards Series. NASCAR Trucks are going to return in 2023 and the track is slowly growing again. However, pressure still exists to close the Milwaukee Mile. The Save The Mile campaign group operates to keep the circuit active and since 2008 has been petitioning legislators to ensure that racing continues at Milwaukee.
