Born in Emberton on June 22, 1978, since childhood Dan Wheldon has the ambition to become a great driver. He battled with Jenson Button in karts, where he wins eight titles before moving to the United States to continue his growth.

He debuts in the IndyCar Series in 2002 with Panther Racing, while in 2003 he moves to Andretti Green Racing and wins the Rookie of the year award. In 2004 comes his first win, on the #Motegi oval, and the final standings sees him at the second place behind Tony Kanaan.

The following year Wheldon makes #history. He wins the Indy 500, bringing the British flag back to the top step of the podium after only Graham Hill managed it nearly 40 years earlier. He becomes class champion for what will be his only title.

He moves to Chip Ganassi Racing in 2006 and during that same year he wins the 24 Hours of #Daytona along with Scott Dixon and Casey Mears. He is offered a position in Formula One by BMW but he declines because of the few guarantees he has received.

He leaves the team in September 2008 to find a place at Panther Racing, but is decommissioned by J.R. Hildebrand for the 2011 season. As fate would have it, the British driver manages to take part at the Indy 500, and thanks to Bryan Herta Autosport he gets that seat that allows him to race and make history again. He wins the race thanks precisely to an accident at the last corner by the man who has left him without a team, overtaking him just before the chequered flag.

For the last race of the season Wheldon is the only one to accept a challenge issued by management, so to win at Las Vegas starting from the last row. Succeeding in the feat, he would win $5 million to be shared later with a fan drawn at random. On Oct. 18 the British driver is involved in a very bad accident, where his car crashes violently into the barriers after rearing up. He should sign for #Andretti Green Racing, but unfortunately attempts to save him are in vain. A very sad epilogue for a great driver.
