SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN dominates the entire weekend. He takes the pole, he leads by 8 seconds in the early stages, and he never leaves the lead except for six laps. After one season to learn the car, he is showing phenomenal ability, with three wins in one season and fighting for the title up to the last race. Actually, he still drives an Indycar as if it’s a Repco Supercar, but this driving style he could not have obtained otherwise grants him an enormous advantage on this kind of track.

SCOTT DIXON fails in qualifying… And then he puts together a race that every driver should learn from. Clean on overtakes, fast and focused on the objective. Given his starting position, he was likely to lose a lot of championship points, but instead, he loses just five points. His experience allowed him to time the overtakes perfectly and optimize the caution. In fact, right at the restart, he sees a gap no one would have gone for, and so he takes fourth position, and then third by forcing O’Ward to let him pass after an illegal blocking. At the finish line, he’s right behind Will Power.

GRAHAM RAHAL is famous for exceptional races, but every time he lacks something more to fight for the win. In Portland, he actually did very good in staying within the top10, and optimizing others’ errors or wrong strategies, he climbs up to fifth. Rahal isn’t the one we knew in 2015, but he’s still fast and still has some good driving skills to show!

CALLUM ILOTT works from behind the curtain: the car isn’t fast but still he’s having a good season overall. Here in Portland he clenches a top10, ninth at the finish line. Open wheel racing looks like his favourite category, although he briefly tried endurance. In Juncos his work is visible and remarkable, as now he roams around the top10 almost in every race, which was unthinkable at the beginning of the season. The team has the means to grow up well and now has the driver too.
