On a fast and tight road course, in the heart of #portland , Indycar approaches the penultimate round of the season. 

#mclaughlin aggressively defends the first place right at the start, while a few corners later #grosjean gets pushed out by #kirkwood and takes a ride on the grass. Lundgaard lies second and #power stands in third. Grosjean pits at lap 13, looking for an undercut, but unfortunately he would never be fighting for the win.

Power gets the second position, while McLaughlin managed to build a gap of 8 seconds.#palou loses two positions around lap 45, to Newgarden and Rahal, and decides to pit. The first pit stops span from lap 13 to 30, depending on strategies.

Around lap 50, drivers perform the second round of pit stops that grants O’Ward third position with Lundgaard sliding to fourth.#newgarden takes the place away from Lundgard soon after, starting the second half of the race. Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson spins in turn 7 and McLaughlin leads the race managing a solid 5 second advantage on Power.

Due to problems with the clutch and a disastrous refueling, Daly retires at lap 72. McLaughlin, Power, O’Ward and Newgarden pit at lap 80 and come back on track in this exact order. Anyway, they closed the gaps and looks like they’re going to fight for the win. 

Newgarden proves unable to keep the pace, but Power and O’ward stand within a 3-seconds gap from McLaughlin, who now has to protect his position. But here the twist happens! Veekay smashes Jimmie Johnson against the wall, caution is out. Dixon somehow climbs up to fourth position at the restart, ahead of Newgarden. The leading three keep their positions, although a way too optimistic overtake attempt slightly damages O’Ward’s car and Dixon overtakes him too. 

In just a few laps, McLaughlin again builds a solid gap, what a stunning performance! In the meantime, Lundgaard mistakes Turn 1 and brings a panel on his front wing all the way to the pits. No caution needed and Mclaughlin flies to his third Indycar win, ahead of Power who keeps the campionship’s lead and Dixon. Indycar will be back at Laguna Seca in a week for the season finale!
