## Caption

The 2008 Firestone Indycar Japan 300 was the third round of the 2008 Indycar Series season. The race has been a delayed of 24 hours due to track conditions, over 10'000 gallons were removed.

Hélio Castroneves started on the pole in a field composed by only 18 cars. The start of the race saw a major upset with Marco Andretti, he went loose into the wall of Turn 1 due to cold tires, crashing out of the race immediately. The caution stayed out until lap 7, where Castroneves held the lead at the restart without any changements, apart from Dan Wheldon passing Kanaan.

On lap 47, Marty Roth brought out the second caution with a crash in turn 4. Hideki Mutoh spun off while the pace car was coming out of the pits, almost crashing into it and Kanaan. On the restart, Castroneves led over Dixon, Wheldon, Kanaan and Briscoe. 

On lap 90, caution came out due to another crash, caused by Vitor Meira. He then pulled off and retired. 

In this moment, Scott Dixon was able to get the lead during the pit stop. At the restart, only Danica Patrick gained spots, screaming pass Manning and Briscoe. On lap 104, another retirement with A.J. Foyt IV due to another contact on the wall.

The last caution came out on lap 141 with Roger Yasukawa stopping down low on the front straight, with brakes issue. On the restart, Dixon maintained the lead, but the fuel mileage is a problem now, nobody knows if the fuel will be enough to finish the race or it will be necessary a splash and go. Dixon held the lead ahead of Wheldon, Kanaan, Carpenter and Castroneves in the top 5.

On the last 6 laps, Dixon came into the pits followed by Wheldon and Kanaan. Castroneves took the lead, but he got passed immediately by Danica Patrick, who saved fuel, with just 2 laps to go on the same strategy!

Danica took a huge lead of 6 seconds, and she went for her first win in Indycar Series, the first for a woman! This win got #danicapatrick 3rd in the standings after 3 races, behind Castroneves and Dixon. On April 19th 2008, history has been made in american motor racing.
